Reddit users are trying to make one random person a millionaire - but it isn't going to plan

The experiment hasn’t quite raised $1 million.

REDDIT USERS ARE pitching in to make one lucky user a millionaire in an experiment dubbed “The Millionaire Maker”.

The experiment will see users donate $1 to a randomly selected user in the hopes of raising $1 million and making that person a millionaire.

Reddit’s rationale behind the experiment?

There are upwards of 114 million monthly unique visits on Reddit. If 1% of users donated $1, a person could easily receive $1 million in donations.

To enter the lottery, all people had to do was post in the thread. Moderators then used a random number generator to select a winner and fellow users were then encouraged to donate $1 via Paypal.

The winner? A user named Emphursis, who was only delighted with his win.

So, how much have users donated? Is Emphursis on his way to becoming a full-on millionaire?

Er, not exactly.

As of 7.45am this morning, the grand total stood at a rather paltry $604.
