RICKY GERVAIS BROUGHT his Humanity World Tour to Dublin’s 3Arena last night.
And it’s safe to say it went down *very* well with the Irish crowd:
But it was his introductory tweet flying over to Dublin that afternoon that caused a ripple of reaction on Twitter thanks to a very subtle phrasing error
Yes:
Popping to Dublin to have a craic with 9000 people
Immediately Irish people were politely pointing out that “a craic” sounds mad
THE craic is an important distinction here
As a nation, we are at our best when correcting people’s slang.
There were blunt replies:
It’s the Craic not a Craic that just sounds weird
Deep, important questions:
a craic? Should it not be the craic or some craic?
And cheerful grammar lessons for the comedian:
You have “the craic”, not “a craic”… Sorry for the grammar lesson… Really looking forward to the show tonight
The word craic was drafted into excellent references from The Office
And from now on Irish people will be capitalising THE in all mentions of craic with Ricky
That little slang mishap didn’t stop anyone enjoying the show though
9000 people were packed in to the 3Arena to see him
And he was delighted with how it went down – calling it the “best gig of the tour”
He definitely had a craic, anyway.
