SOMETIME LAST NIGHT, this official-looking blue plaque appeared in Hammersmith Broadway, west London.

It reads:

Rik Mayall 1958-2014

Punched his friend in the balls on a bench near this spot

The QR code links to a YouTube video of the opening credits of Bottom – where Rik Mayall and his lifelong friend and comedy partner Ade Edmondson are filmed sitting on a bench at Hammersmith Broadway.

Of course, Rik punches Ade in the balls.

There could be no more fitting memorial.

(The plaque is an imitation of the official English Heritage blue plaques, which mark places associated with notable figures. RIP Rik.)
