There's a Romanian version of Mrs Brown's Boys called Auntie Flowers

Tanti Florica looks strikingly similar to the original Irish version.

MRS BROWN’S BOYS was a huge hit in the UK and Ireland so it’s hardly surprising that they didn’t change much when they brought the show to Romania.

Well, except the cast, obviously.

Tanti Florica features a rather familiar looking “mammy” – played by actor and TV show host Florin Calinescu – and you don’t even need subtitles to get the gist of what he/she is saying.

Two seasons of ‘Auntie Flowers’ – that’s the rough translation -have already aired and gone down an absolute storm.

Ben Kellet – who directed the original series of Brendan O’Carroll’s comedy – told RTÉ Radio One’s John Murray Show that the Mrs Brown concept had no problems crossing the language barrier.

“I went over to do the show and help them set up the pilot over there” he explained, “and the similarities in the scripts and the comedy just works there as well. It has been a huge hit in Romania, believe it or not.”

It’s good news for O’Carroll and co who are now gearing up for the release of Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie on June 27th.
