
THE DIGITALISATION OF photography has been a major cultural phenomenon of the 21st century.
It has been particularly prolific in the past five years with sites such as Facebook and Flickr exposing us to all the photos we could possibly want of our families, friends and even strangers.
When artist and photographer Erik Kessels thinks about it he imagines “drowning in pictures of the experiences of others”.
In order to depict this visually he printed all the images that were posted on photo-sharing website Flickr during a 24-hour-period.
The result is this exhibition in Amsterdam’s The Future of Photography Museum at Foam gallery.
To show that countless photos are now at our disposal, he simply dumped the million prints in the one room as part of this overwhelming art installation:
