LESS THAN A week after announcing that she’d been cast as Batwoman, Ruby Rose has quit Twitter because of the backlash she’s received.

The Aussie actress, who identifies as gender fluid, is due to play Kate Kane, aka ‘Batwoman’, in an upcoming DC Universe crossover event. Significantly, the role will be the first lesbian superhero to lead a TV Series.

However, Ruby’s casting split opinion among the fandom of the DC Universe.

Whilst the choice was celebrated by some, it received sharp criticism from others.

Ruby ended up getting so much s**t on Twitter that she posted a series of Tweets explaining how confusing the past couple of days had been:

Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from — has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change. I wish we would all support each other and our journeys.

Ruby went on to express her wish that communities would lift each other up rather than ‘tear each other down’.

When women and when minorities join forces we are unstoppable…when we tear each other down it’s much more hurtful than from any group. But hey/ love a challenge I just wish women and the LGBT community supported each other more, My wish was we were all a little kinder and more supportive of each other…Sending everyone my love and gratitude, it’s been a rollercoaster of a year, this month especially.

With Twitter becoming a drain on her energy, Ruby announced that she would be taking a break from the social media for the foreseeable future.

I am looking forward to getting more than 4 hours of sleep and to break from Twitter to focus all my energy on my next 2 projects. If you need me, I’ll be on my Bat Phone.

It’s worth noting that Heath Ledger got a lot of slack when his casting as The Joker was first announced.

So Ruby should really be given a chance to display her acting skills before there’s a judgement passed.
