While appearing on Live with Kelly and Ryan this week, the actress revealed that she always hoped to become a director after taking the reins on the other side of the camera at the age of nine.

I always wanted to be a director one day…. and I did actually direct a film when I was a child.

With the audience going mental at the thought of a nine-year-old Saoirse calling the shots on set, the Ladybird star joked that it was only deadly.

Oh yeah it was fantastic. It was called Ed the Baker. It was about this guy called Ed and yeah he was a baker, Kelly.

So, what happened Saoirse?

It was so grown up. His wife and his kid went away for the weekend. She was going off to, like, see her parents or something. And he was left in the bakery but he was broke so he decided to trash his bakery so that he could gain the insurance money.

We know yeah; financial troubles and insurance fraud – the whole fecking shebang.

I did this when I was bout nine-years-old. I don’t know how I knew this. I still don’t quite understand the whole insurance thing but for some reason that was what I was drawn to at the time.

When Kelly asked if Saoirse sees directing on her career trajectory, the Irish star said she’d love to pursue it in the future.

So yeah, it was always something that I wanted to do and then I went off and I acted and I loved that.
