IF YOU’RE A fan of Saoirse Ronan, you’ll know that her mother is one of the most important people in her life.
From regularly mentioning her during interviews to Facetiming her during the Golden Globes, it’s clear that Saoirse idolises her mam, Monica.
And when asked about the most important role model in her life during an interview with Elle Australia this week, the Ladybird actress replied:
For me, my mother. I know everyone says that but Mum and I have quite an unusual relationship.
Saoirse believes the bond she has with Monica may have been strengthened by the fact she doesn’t have any siblings.
I’m an only child so we were always very close but she came away and worked with me as well.
In fact, the 24-year-old, whose father Paul is making his return to Fair City this week, credits her mother for the role she played in her ascent to Hollywood.
She says Monica’s intuition when it comes to her daughter does much to ensure Saoirse’s success.
She played a huge part in my career, from the very beginning and understands how I work and how I think, in a way that nobody else does. She’s been incredible for me.
Saoirse told the publication that surrounding herself with strong women is paramount, and adds that she feels fortunate enough to have worked alongside some.
Doing the awards circuit last year with Margot and Fran McDormand and women like that was incredible because they are all so great at what they do.
“I get to work with so many brilliant women in film and some have become really close friends. Greta Gerwig—she’s like my hero!” Saoirse added.
