Saoirse Ronan's stylist has hinted at her Oscar gown, and we're absolutely intrigued

She’s gone for an all-female glam squad.

WHEN IT COMES to the Hollywood machine, the times they are a-changing.

Indeed, the furore surrounding recent red carpet couture has much less to do with the name behind the design, and much more to do with what it represents on a social scale.

Born of the #MeToo and #TimesUp campaign, the vast majority of female stars have been choosing red carpet looks with a socio-political agenda in mind.

And while most have been vocal in their endeavours, some actresses have chosen to maintain a relative silence on certain personal ventures in the field.

Take our very own Saoirse Ronan, for example.

The actress, whose performance in Greta Gerwig’s Ladybird has been wildly lauded, decided to work solely with women when it came to events publicising the Oscar-nominated movie.

Speaking to British Vogue, stylist, Elizabath Saltzman, who first worked with Saoirse in preparation for the Toronto Film Festival, revealed that the 23- year-old felt the decision would honour the sentiment of the movie.

Saoirse and I had a conversation at the beginning of the season that should Ladybird go the distance, we wanted to work with all females—female makeup, female hairstylists, female designers—and that we would never talk about it to anyone.

“It would be our fun secret, our empowering moment,” Elizabeth added.

Having styled Saoirse for the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards, Elizabeth tells W magazine  that she has seen the young Irish star develop a keen understanding of the importance of red carpet choices.

Indeed, Saoirse is all too aware that the ensemble plays a much greater role in her latest film’s performance than many might consider, with Elizabeth explaining: “There’s no ad dollars. This is as bare bones as it gets. So everyone is doing what they can to pitch in.”

Every outfit mattered, because it meant Ladybird might get mentioned or it might get picked up somewhere or maybe 100,000 more people will know how to say Saoirse’s name.

And with the Oscar-nominee having garnered considerable praise for her recent red carpet choices, the pressure is truly on for the Academy Awards this weekend.

Naturally, Elizabeth was reluctant to give too much away, but hinted at the look the Ladybird star was going for, saying: “We’ve been talking about the sky.”

We’re still in full blown fabric and sketch mode so it hasn’t been decided. It’s just been narrowed very down. I can tell you that a big part of the reference is the sky.

Well, now we’re even more intrigued.
