Saoirse Ronan's dad said he was 'a bit disappointed' for her on Oscar night
ON SUNDAY NIGHT, 23-year-old Saoirse Ronan was up for her third Oscar.
Having lost out twice before for her roles in Atonement and Brooklyn, hopes were high that it would be third time lucky for the Irish actress with Ladybird.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, and Frances McDormand ultimately took the Best Actress crown at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles last weekend.
Speaking to RTÉ this week, Saoirse’s father, Paul, stressed the significance of earning three Academy Award nominations, but admitted he felt downhearted on behalf of his daughter.
“I was a bit disappointed for Saoirse when she lost out to Frances, although losing is the wrong word to use,” he reasoned when discussing the outcome of the nomination.
Paul, who trained as an actor in New York when Saoirse was a child, made his Fair City debut earlier this week, and was keen to focus on the impact three Academy Award nominations will have on Saoirse’s career trajectory.
Saoirse’s father was full of praise for his daughter, adding: “I’m proud of Saoirse for who she is, not for any award or her talent as an actor.”
