SAOIRSE RONAN WAS on top of the world at last night’s Golden Globes. She won Best Actress in a motion picture, comedy or musical, and her movie Lady Bird picked up best picture.
The Carlow native wore a black Versace dress in solidarity with the Time’s Up movement, and walked the red carpet with her bestie, Eileen O’Higgins.
SO delighted to have her best pal with her, Saoirse even gave her a shoutout during her acceptance speech.

Eileen is an actress herself, and starred alongside Ronan in Brooklyn as her friend Nancy. Eileen is from County Down and has also acted in various theatrical productions in London.

The pair evidently hit it off, with Eileen being the first person Saoirse rang after she found out about her Oscar nomination
Speaking to the Irish News back in 2016, Eileen said she and Saoirse hit it off from the beginning.
We’re very good friends and talk all the time.
When they first met, “It was St Patrick’s Day 2014. She was wearing a green shirt and we were doing rehearsals for Brooklyn in London. After rehearsals I tasted my first Guinness of my entire life with Saoirse and (Irish actresses) Fiona Glasgot and Jane Brennan.”
All true friendships arise over a pint of Guinness.
O’Higgins recently landed another role alongside Ronan in Mary, Queen of Scots, so they’ll have absolutely no problem keeping in touch after the glitz of the Globes dies down.
