ON LAST NIGHT’S episode of The Graham Norton Show, there were some interesting stories about Saoirse Ronan.

Will & Grace stars Debra Messing and Eric McCormack revealed that they had been practicing how to pronounce Saoirse’s name since they started production on the new series of Will & Grace.

Saoirse was delighted to hear that she was supposed to be an opening joke on an episode of the sitcom, but she was also fairly devastated when they told her that the joke had been cut.

Saoirse had a couple of her own stories to tell. Including one about her mam coming to visit her in LA. Saoirse’s mother Monica Ronan flew over to LA and was very excited to see Saoirse’s new movie Lady Bird.

She was really proud and had heard it was doing really well. So I was like “Mam, it’s doing really well. Let’s go see it with a real audience. It’s probably gonna be sold out, but we’ll just go and see… So, I got us tickets to like a 4 o’clock screening, or something like that. I was like ‘Keep your head down. There’s posters everywhere, it’s been sold out.’

Saoirse then continued:

We go into the cinema, there’s a total of six people in there. All on their phones. Nobody was interested at all. I was like ‘keep your head down, keep your head down’. There was this girl that was texting for the first ten minutes of the film, I was like get off your phone. Then her friend turns up late for the film. But she loved it. And I think the other six people loved it too.

Regardless of the reaction Saoirse witnessed in that LA theatre, she told Graham she can’t believe what a big commercial hit Lady Bird has been.

Girls have been coming up to me saying “I feel like somebody gets me now.” So it’s really nice. Everyone’s calling their mam after the film, because they feel so guilty about being horrible to them when they were younger.

As well as all of this, Saoirse discussed that ‘Galway Grill’ tattoo she gave Ed Sheeran.

What a big television night for the Aislings of the world.
