Saoirse Ronan just won the award they had to rename because she's Irish
Ronan at the Critics' Choice Awards last night Associated Press Associated Press
IN AMONGST THE various incidents of Saoirse Ronan being identified as ‘British’ this awards season, you might cast your mind back to one of the first: The London Film Critics Circle.
They were the subject of much scoffing after making a hames of categorising Ronan as a British actress.
(They also claimed Colin Farrell and Michel Fassbender as their own).
The category was swiftly renamed as British/Irish Actress of the Year, and a good thing too because she went and won the bloody thing.
Ronan wasn’t there to pick up her award though. She was in California at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Burn.
She lost out to Brie Larson’s Room performance at the US ceremony.
