THE FALLOUT FROM Saoirse Ronan’s hosting appearance on Saturday Night Live has rumbled on into this week – mostly thanks to the now infamous Aer Lingus sketch she appeared in.
But over in America, the sketch that made the biggest impact was the song she performed with the cast about sexual harassment in Hollywood.
Yesterday, Saoirse appeared on Good Morning America and it was the first thing they asked her about
Host Robin Roberts was straight in there with a question about the “buzzy” sketch:
This weekend on SNL – that really creative skit taking on a very difficult subject – sexual harassment – but using humour like that. You all felt that it was time to take it on?
Saoirse began:
“Obviously everyone, especially over here and in the media, has been finding a way to sort of approach it and explain how it’s made them feel or their response to it.”
Speaking about the song, she said:
“One of the best experiences about working on SNL was meeting all the female writers and how incredibly smart and sharp they are – they had such a great, sophisticated way of handling something like that through humour”
“I feel like I’ve had so many conversations recently with men like that – where I’m actually like ‘yep, it’s been like this forever.’ So yeah, I just feel like they’re very, very good at handling difficult topics like that and making them, I don’t know, reachable to a wider audience.”
Later on in the interview, she was told there was a couple of people from Derry in the crowd
Wheel them out!
We’ll probably have to wait for an Irish chat show to see what her thoughts were about the writing on the Aer Lingus sketch.
