Saul Goodman has a hilariously bad Irish accent in the Breaking Bad spin-off
varago01 varago01
THE FIRST PROMOTIONAL gimmick for Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul has arrived – in the shape of a giant billboard near Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The billboard is mocked up to look like an actual advertisement for a small-time lawyer. It features a large photo of Saul Goodman actor Bob Odenkirk as “James M McGill” – and a phone number
Jimmy McGill, we learned earlier this month, is Saul Goodman’s previous incarnation – a fresh-off-the-boat Irish immigrant, rather than the Jewish lawyer he later transformed himself into.
And in a piece of promotional wizardry, you can actually ring the number on the billboard and listen to McGill’s answerphone message. The Irish accent is… quite a performance.

Better Call Saul will track the character’s metamorphosis from McGill to Goodman. In Breaking Bad, Saul reveals to Walter White that he’s actually Irish-American and only pretends to be Jewish “for the homeboys who want a member of the tribe.”
