‘RETIRED’ ACTOR SEAN Penn released his novel Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff this week.
So far, the reviews have been less than kind, with Claire Fallon from The Huffington Post calling it “an exercise in ass-showing”. The New York Times’ Jeff Giles said the novel “induces something like Stockholm syndrome — you admire the novel just because you’re surviving it”.
Tough crowd, huh?
The novel follows Bob Honey, an aging septic tank entrepreneur and government contract killer of senior citizens (they drain society’s resources and produce methane). In the midst of all this, however, is a poem centering about the #MeToo movement.
In the poem, Penn appears to criticise the phrase ‘me too’, and question the media’s treatment of those accused of sexual misconduct like Charlie Rose and Louis CK.
This comes despite the fact that Penn himself has faced accusations of domestic violence while he was married to Madonna.
Singer Cher tweeted: “Room full of people who asked for a poem by alleged domestic abuser Sean Penn about #MeToo”, with a GIF of an empty room attached.
Anyway, Twitter is also not able for Penn’s career move and the fruits of it.
There’s another dodgy piece of prose that talks about “assaults on virtual vaginas.”
Also, this point, where Bob tells a female character that she has “a good vagina”:
Can’t imagine what ground he’s going to cover in the sequel.
