Last night's SNL featured Donald Trump giving Sean Spicer a Godfather-style kiss of death

And it was as brutal as you’d imagine.

MELISSA MCCARTHY HOSTED Saturday Night Live last night and once again reprised her impression of beleaguered White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

And it might have been the most merciless send-up yet.

The sketch opened with Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders (played by Aidy Bryant) addressing journalists as Sean Spicer cowered in the bushes outside.

The Washington Post reported earlier this week that Sean Spicer huddled with staff “near a clump of bushes and then behind a tall hedge” following James Comey’s firing.

Before McCarthy’s Spicer returned to hurl abuse at the press.

At one point, the sketch mocked Trump’s attempts to distance himself from Russia with a letter from his lawyers.

Alright, let me just put this whole Russian thing to bed once and for all. Trump is innocent. How do we know? Because he told us so. Period. Then he hired lawyers to agree with him and they’re going to prove it with a certified letter, which you know is the truth because it costs an extra two dollars to have it certified.

And addressing rumours that Sean Spicer might not be in his job for much longer

"What if he's lying to you?" one journalist asks. "He wouldn't do that," a flustered Spicer replies. "He's my friend."

Another journalist asks, "If he's your friend, why does he make you come out and humiliate yourself every day?" to which Spicer responds, "He doesn't make me. I like it. I get off on it. "

The sketch concludes with Spicer scooting through New York on his podium, searching for Trump, before eventually finding him at a golf course in New Jersey.

At which point they smooch.

"Is this like The Godfather when you kiss me and no-one ever sees me again?" asks Spicer. "Yes," replies Trump.
