Sex class for over 60s cancelled

Portsmouth City Council has cancelled a workshop about sex because of “lack of interest” from its target group.

A WORKSHOP ABOUT safe sexual practices for those aged 60 and over has been cancelled due to a lack of interest.

Portsmouth City Council had organised the event as part of its 60+ Festival, advertising it as a “frank, fun and factual” session about “sex in later years”.

Entitled Generation Sex the interactive workshop was due to be held today in a local library but not enough places on the course were booked.

A spokeswoman for the council told the BBC, “Sorry to disappoint but the sex over-60s event has been cancelled due to lack of interest.”

The council’s tourism and visitor services manager, Drusilla Moody, told TheJournal.ie:

Residents were invited to a discussion about sexual health in older people.  The background was the risk of sexually-transmitted diseases in older people and the need to practise safer sex. The aim was to try to understand what the issues were for older people, and how best to communicate with them…It was decided to cancel the event because too few people booked places.”

Other events during the two-week festival include read dating, crochet and flower-arranging.
