BEING AN ACTRESS isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Sure there are movie premiers, and gift-bags of freebies, and dresses given to you on loan for the Oscars…
Saoirse Ronan *heart eyes*
This glamorous, red-carpet side of being an actress can make young girls and women dream of being a Hollywood star.
But it’s also really hard work. Acting is a job where people say you perform “in the flesh” meaning that your flesh (your body) is your uniform. With each new acting role, a new “flesh” is required to match up with the storyline of the movie.
For Shailene Woodley’s latest film, Adrift, which is scarily based on a true story, she played one half of a couple who are stranded at sea whilst sailing.
Nightmare!
The couple must survive on a teeny tiny amount of food, and so inevitable are on a starvation diet. So as to play this role authentically, Woodley was compelled to lose weight quickly for Adrift’s final scenes.
To achieve rapid weight loss, Woodley revealed to The Sunday Times that she lived off a mere 350 calories a day for two weeks.
350 calories – DAFUQ?!
That’s the equivalent of surviving on one glass of milk (122cals) and 5 oreos (45 calories each).
The average woman needs 2,000 calories to survive. Woodley could have severely damaged her health by this extreme starvation diet.
Woodley elaborated on what what her measly diet consisted of:
For the last two weeks I had a can of salmon, some steamed broccoli and two egg yolks every day—350 calories. It was f*cking miserable
No s**t Sherlock. That sounds utterly miserable!
I can’t sleep when I’m hungry, so I would have a glass of wine to basically pass the f*ck out.’
Sounds…ehh…not healthy.
For younger fans, who are easily influenced, to hear what she was eating to lose weight and then what alcohol she was drinking in order to sleep, could potentially be quite harmful to their health.
Woodley has 3.5 million followers on Instagram and is a popular actress with young girls, particularity after her 2014 role in The Fault in Our Stars.
Adrift, which was released on 1 June, hasn’t broken even yet.
It had a Budget of $35 million but has only gotten $31.7 million from the Box Office as of today. Here’s hoping that Woodley’s revelation of her extreme diet is not a desperate publicity stunt to drum up headlines so people go and see the movie.
Hopefully Woodley was supervised by doctors on set to make sure her health didn’t suffer long term because of the extreme dieting.
However, going by her latest Instagram posts, Woodley is far from miserable.
At the premier of Adrift in May, Woodley looked like she was healthy and happy
And I mean, who wouldn’t be happy when your Princess ballgown has fecking pockets! #TheDream
