SIERRA BURGESS IS A Loser came out on Netflix this week.
Like it’s predecessor To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, it’s drummed up quite a bit of hype.
Right, what’s it about then?
In a modern retelling of the Cyrano de Bergerac story, Sierra is a high school “loser”. Well, that’s according to the so-called popular mean girls, especially the queen bee Veronica.
One day, Jamey sees Veronica in a cafe and asks for her number. In a moment of cruelty, Veronica gives him Sierra’s number instead. When Jamey starts texting Sierra, believing it to be Veronica, our titular hero goes along with it.
Soon, Sierra and Jamey form a bond over text and calls, (because cat-fishing is really cute and endearing.)
Eventually, Veronica teams up with Sierra to keep the charade going in front of an unsuspecting Jamey — in a twist, the two former frenemies end up as friends. But they can’t keep up the deception forever (obvs, it’s 2018, Jamey has prbably watched MTV before.)
Ok, and who’s in it?
Shannon Purser plays the titular role. Remember Barb from Stranger Things? The one who got eaten by The Demogorgon in Stranger Things? Yeah, here.
And speaking of To All The Boys, America’s boyfriend Noah Centineo plays Jamey.
Norwegian newcomer Kristine Froseth plays Veronica.
Is it any use?
Initial reviews suggest that it lands somewhere between To All The Boys and The Kissing Booth in terms of rom-com quality.
However, the ensemble cast are all said to give great performances, so it could be worth a lazy watch to ease you into the working week.
