DON’T DO THESE things. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
1. Never catch a falling knife
Let it fall, instead of letting it slice your flesh.
2. Don’t serve anything before you taste it
It most likely needs more seasoning.
3. Metal utensils will ruin a non-stick pan
It will RUIN them. Use these.
4. Don’t cut steaks straight from the heat
If you leave them to rest, they will keep their juices.
5. Don’t put a hot dish on a wet or cold surface
Unless you want it to shatter into a million pieces, of course.
6. Don’t smush burgers to make them cook quicker
This is not McDonalds and you’re just pushing the juices out. Give it a single flip instead and let it stew.
7. Don’t use the wrong cooking oil
Different oils have different smoke points and therefore some work better at cooking at high temperatures than others. Here’s a quick guide, click here to enlarge.
8. Don’t overcrowd the pan
If you pile in too much food in a pan, it traps heat and creates steam. The problem? The steam is an enemy of browning and flavour and juices. Cook it in batches instead.
9. Don’t remove food from a cutting board with a knife
You’ll just make it blunt, and who wants that? Rotate and use the blunt side.
10. Don’t stir rice, unless you’re making risotto
It will just activate the starch and make it all gummy. Instead, you should leave it to cook and get the best results.
