Sinead O'Connor announces end of her marriage... for a second time

The singer blamed media scrutiny for the disintegration of her relationship with Barry Herridge, who she married in Vegas.

SINEAD O’CONNOR HAS announced the end of her marriage for a second time, just ten days after reconciling with husband Barry Herridge.

In a statement on her website the singer said that her fourth marriage had become “untenable”.

She blamed what she said was intense media pressure on her husband, who she called an “innocent flower”, writing:

Certain sections of our media are pure evil. These people, along with others caused enormous damage deliberately and maliciously to my innocent flower of a husband, purely because he was with me. And so his association with me became something very bad for his life.

O’Connor had previously reunited with Herridge, an addiction counsellor, saying ten days ago that they planned to return to being ‘boyfriend and girlfriend’ and “all in love”. The pair had split for the first time shortly after Christmas 16 days after marrying in Vegas.

In today’s statement, the singer also spoke of her recent psychological difficulties, which were publicised on Twitter. She said she had become depressed as a result of the media scrutiny of her husband, but was now “off to work today feeling much better and happy”.

She added:

Many great things are happening work wise as well as of course I have my children, family and friends so I am happy enough.
