Sisqo has reinvented his hit 'Thong Song' for a 2017 audience

Same lyrics, just with a drop added to the music, because it’s 2017.

A LOT HAS changed in the seventeen years since Sisqo originally dropped Thong Song back in 1999. For starters, kids born when that song came out are doing their leaving cert.

People are no longer particularly pushed on thongs, apart from when they have to wear leggings and Sisqo’s iconic white hair is the same colour, but probably because of nature greying him rather than bleach.

With thirteen days left of summer, there hasn’t been a real competitor for the song of the summer yet.

Dua Lipa’s New Rules has definitely made the biggest impact in the shortest amount of time with it’s totally gorgeous music video that is so aesthetic goals that the song has basically gone viral.

22,000,000 views in a week is nothing to be scoffed at, but it’s yet to take over radio and TV, which is probably for the best, because nobody is ready to be sick of that song yet.

However, could Sisqo’s reboot of Thong Song overtake it?

It’s as cheesy as ever and sounds like the soundtrack of The Wright Venue, but that’s enough to make any other EDM song work. There are still as many thongs in the video and everyone still appreciates Thong Song and it’s ridiculous ability to make rhyming ‘what’ with ‘truck’ work.

It’s definitely very 2017, but would this song be worth anything without the cultural significance of the original Thong Song backing it up? Probably not.

He doesn’t do any frontflips like in the original video, because, as Sisqo told Buzzfeed, he had dislocated three ribs performing on the other side of America just before filming the video. The years are definitely catching up with him.
