The King’s Speech picks up four awards, Melissa Leo drops the F-bomb in front of one billion viewers, and James Franco gets in touch with his feminine side…

THE KING’S SPEECH came out victorious during last night’s Oscars, scooping both best film and best leading actor for leading man Colin Firth.

The film also took home best director for Tom Hooper best original screenplay for David Seidler.

Meanwhile, The Fighter also performed well with Christian Bale named as best supporting actor and Melissa Leo receiving an Oscar for best supporting actress. Leo raised an eyebrow or two hundred million upon accepting her award, commenting: “When I watched Kate [Winslet win the award] two years ago, it looked so f***ing easy!”

She now has the dubious honour of being the first person to use the F-word in the history of the award ceremony – watched live by about a billion people.

Natalie Portman won best actress for her performance in Black Swan but the film missed out on the best cinematography award to Inception, which also picked up best sound editing and best sound mixing.

Irish Oscar nominee Michael Creagh was passed over for his short film The Crush – about a schoolboy who has a crush on his teacher and is devastated to learn she has a fiancé - with Luke Matheny’s God of Love taking the award instead.

Other winners include Toy Story 3 for best animated feature film, and Alice in Wonderland for best art direction and best costume design. The Social Network won best film editing and best original score.

Hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco spiced things up by swapping gender roles for a while during the night. The actress appeared on stage wearing a tuxedo while Franco did his best Marilyn Monroe impression, complete with skin-tight hot pink satin.

“You got to wear a tuxedo so I wore this,” said Franco, through a mess of platinum blonde curls. “The weird thing is I just got a text message from Charlie Sheen.”
