Snoop Dogg arrested on same Texan route as Willie Nelson

The rapper had criticised Nelson’s drugs arrest in 2010, saying people should ‘respect their elders’.

THE US RAP STAR Snoop Dogg has been arrested and released after drugs were found on his bus by border authorities in Texas.

A sniffer dog was brought on board the bus and 0.13 pounds of marijuana was discovered in total. The Hudspeth County sheriff said in a statement that the rapper had freely admitted the drugs were his.

The AP reports that his agent has not responded to queries about the arrest. The rapper was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanour that a county official says is typically resolved with a no-contest plea and a fine of up to $500.

Snoop Dogg has previously mentioned (as in the video below) that he holds a licence for the medicinal use of marijuana in the state of California because of the migraines he suffers.

Willie Nelson was arrested at the same border checkpoint in 2010 and charged with marijuana possession. A prosecutor said the charge could be settled if the country star sang “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” and paid a $100 fine.

TMZ reports that Dogg defended Nelson after his arrest, saying people should have respect for their elders and adding:

I said before and I say it again: you got a problem with Willie Nelson, you got a problem with me.

The organisers of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival announced today that Snoop Dogg would feature among the event’s headline acts in April 2012.
