MINDLESSLY SCROLLING THROUGH social media is a really easy way to wind yourself up because, let’s be honest, people can be insufferable especially when they’re provided with an online platform.

Now, it goes without saying you very likely follow people on social media you’ve either never met IRL or only knew for a brief period of time, so it stands to reason that they may be more likely to grind your gears.

However, online angst is not only directed at past co-workers, distant relatives or high-profile individuals you simply hate-follow, but regularly (and secretly) leveled at the people in your life you actually hold in high esteem… outside of social media, that is.

In fact, we would wager that you have people in your life you genuinely like, respect and admire IRL, but cannot abide in the online world. When the real-life personality just doesn’t tally with the online persona; you know yourself.

With that in mind, we asked you guys to reveal the sayings, trends and behaviour on social media that really infuriate you, and it turns out there’s not enough time in the day to list them all.

We will, however, give it a go…

A little passé, to be fair.

Boomerangs of Prosecco. It’s just so – and I’m not mad about this word either – but basic.

Ah, one close to our own hearts.

People reacting to headlines, not the actual story. It’s the pits. If people read the full story, there’d be a lot less internet outrage.

Nobody’s jealous of your sad pint.

A picture of drinks by a pool saying ‘Sure, what else would you be doing?’ Or the phrase ‘Of a Thursday’ beside a picture of a drink. Piss off, you clown.

Yeah, you’re definitely too cool for the rest us.

The phrases ‘About last night’, ‘Got me like’ and anything that alludes to things like people are getting married and having babies and ‘I’m over here like [insert 'whatever thing they're doing which is so much quirkier' here].’

This one cropped up again and again.

The term ‘The boy did good’. I see it at Christmas, on birthdays, on Valentine’s Day, on anniversaries. Maybe I just follow eejits.

And deep breath…

People who literally think they’re famous on social media. People who overdo the couple garbage like on Valentine’s Day with ‘the boy did good’ posts. People who try to be sexy on social; pouting, posing and flashing all over Instagram. And any post in January with a picture of a glass of wine and a caption like ‘Ooops’ or ‘Dry January who?’

Shush, you.

People who use the term ‘For the win’.

It’s garbage can, not garbage cannot.

Those stupid life-affirming quotes. I hate them.

Ah here it is again.

I hate the ‘boy did good’ post. And of course the classic ‘all fine hun, I’ll PM you’ after ranting or posting cryptic shite.

And a very specific shout-out to anyone who’s fond of a TBT.

People who post an old picture of themselves looking unreal, then write in the caption ‘Can’t believe this was x number of years ago – feeling old!’ They don’t actually feel old at all, they just want to hide the fact that they love themselves and want to show off a picture where they look hot. Feeling old is when you realise that you’re annoyed by low water pressure which is me right now.
