The girls mocked for taking selfies at baseball had a brilliant response to the controversy
EARLIER THIS WEEK, a group of sorority girls in Arizona went viral for seemingly ignoring an baseball game to snap selfies.
YouTube YouTube
The group was roundly mocked both by the announcers at the game and by those on social media, with the usual cries of “This GENERATION!!!” and “Girls are awful!!” out in full force:
Whoops!
We couldn't find this Tweet
Whoops!
We couldn't find this Tweet
But there were also some excellent points made about how boring watching baseball can be:
Whoops!
We couldn't find this Tweet
It’d be easy to retreat into silence after all this criticism, but the sorority chapter came out with a perfectly classy response to the situation.
After the furore, Fox Sports and the Arizona baseball team contacted the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and offered them tickets to Thursday night’s game - but the girls declined, asking the team to instead donate the tickets to a local domestic violence shelter.
From the sorority’s Facebook page:
The sorority also asked people to make a donation to A New Leaf. How about that? We may stop despairing for this ‘generation’ after all.
