WITH BREXIT NEGOTIATIONS coming up in 10 days time and the DUP helping Theresa May into government in Westminster – it’s an ~interesting~ political moment for the future of the border right now.
So, in times like these, we need to gain some perspective on matters.
And Irish comedian Davey Reilly came across a souvenir shop in Cavan today that can deliver just that
It’s filled with puntastic items referencing recent Irish history, both sides of the border
It’s a project set up by Belfast-born artist Rita Duffy, and will be open for two weeks in the Townhall Cavan. The shop is described as:
a collection of surreal, openly provocative art works that are surreal and poignant, absurd and humorous
And the items in stock certainly deliver on that promise
^actual peas, not just the pun
It’s all part of Duffy’s new project called ‘Soften the Border’ – where the issue of Brexit and the Northern Ireland-Ireland border is to the fore throughout.
The wordplay is often delightful
And loads of history’s famous faces pop up in the strangest of places
Last year, around the time of the Easter Rising Centenary, Duffy opened he original souvenir shop situated close to the site of Proclamation signatory Thomas Clarke’s tobacconist on Parnell Street in Dublin.
On today of all days, we can appreciate this new take on the shop – with a border theme
A balaclava tea cosy, anyone?
“surreal and poignant, absurd and humorous”
Yes, yes, yes and yes.
