THIS WEEKEND, MANY Facebook users woke up to an intriguing notification.
They were invited to “say thanks” by making a “special video for a friend”.
Anyone who followed the link reached a page where you choose a lucky friend. Then you have to “pick a theme”. And you get a 60-second video featuring photos of the two of you together, with this message.
I want to say thanks. It’s been a wild ride. We’ve seen some amazing things. We shared some great moments. And we have the memories to prove it. Thanks for being a friend.
Yes, it wants you to thank them for a ‘wild ride’.
Apparently they didn’t test this feature on any mind-in-the-gutter Irish people.
The videos are already proving pretty popular.
Designed to encourage users to interact with their friends on Facebook, they’re a retread of the personalised movies the site launched earlier this year for its tenth birthday.
And, um, raising a few hackles.
But not all for the same reason
We haven’t found anyone complaining about not getting a wild ride yet. But the day is young.
