Sports bar owner buys entire Texas town, renames it 'Bikinis'
A SPORTS BAR owner in Texas has bought the abandoned town of Bankersmith in Kendall County and renamed it ‘Bikinis’ in honour of his restaurant chain.
Doug Guller is CEO of ATX Brands LLC, which owns Bikinis Sports Bar and Grill; he bought the town after spotting it was for sale on Craigslist.
Guller would not reveal how much he had paid for the town but said that it was an opportunity that he “couldn’t pass up”.
However, some have doubts about the newly-christened Bikinis being a town at all: “The town doesn’t exist,” Elizabeth Alvarez, Texas Almanac editor told ABC News.
“I don’t know what the wording of the ad was, but he must have purchased some land where the town site was. It’s not like purchasing a town, because it’s not a town and hasn’t been for a really long time.”
Guller appears undeterred however – saying he has plans to appoint a postmaster and a sheriff, and is currently working on a Bikinis Bill of Rights.
