FANS OF TV show Suits were probably a little concerned at the announcement of Meghan Markle’s engagement to Prince Harry, wondering if Markle was going to stay or how the show would smoothly remove her character from the show.
Markle then officially announced that she’d be retiring as an actress once she gets married.
The creator of Suits, Aaron Korsh has revealed that he and his team of writers have anticipated her departure for quite a while. Speaking to BBC Radio 4, Korsh said:
I knew obviously from about a year ago that this relationship was burgeoning. I didn’t want to intrude, so I didn’t want to ask “Hey, what’s going on? What are you going to do?” The writers decided collectively to take a gamble that these two people were in love and it was going to work out.
They figured it would be a lot easier to undo her character’s departure from the show than to be left trying to work something out at the last minute.
It’s much easier to undo that if it came to it than just plan on her staying forever and then find out she’s going to go – because the only way to write a character like that is to have her be hit by a bus or something.
The USA Network and Universal Cable Productions, who are the co-producers of Suits released a statement earlier this week:
We want to send our most heartfelt congratulations to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement. Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her. We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to Suits, and we wish her the very best.
Markle’s on-screen boyfriend has also been written out of Suits and will not return in the show’s eighth season.
