THE SUMMER IS truly here, and everyone is only delighted with themselves.
When the heat comes on, Irish lads have a few go-to fashion statements that tend to get whipped out. They are an annual part of our national culture:
1. Penney’s Flowery shorts
The old reliable. Whether in classic Hawaiian style or more modern, minimalist design – they’re always there for you. And if you need to go for an impromptu swim, they’re good for that too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
2. These monstrosities
They keep your feet cool, though, so all aesthetic issues can be ignored.
3. GAA shorts
Even when not involved in any sporting activity, the GAA shorts are out in force. It’s so hot and these are the only shorts available.
4. Black socks with shorts
Usually pulled up a little too high – these are not fancy summer ankle socks we’re dealing with, oh no.
5. A worn, baggy tank top with something American on the front
Usually the preserve of lounging around the house, on a hot day these bad boys make their annual public appearance.
6. Runners with no socks
Even black socks are preferable to no socks. Think of the SWEAT.
7. Short-sleeved shirts
It’s office wear that keeps you BREEZY at the same time. Win-win, right? Anyone?
8. A trilby (or another questionable hat)
For the more adventurous gents out there the trilby will come out.
If a trilby is too much you can go with something else. The number of gas hats rises exponentially in the summer months, as we all know.
9. Flip flops
You may as well be on HOLIDAYS (but not actually near a beach or the water).
10. Hawaiian shirts
Hello, summer.
Unlike the sun, these looks will never leave us.
