YESTERDAY SUSAN SARADON was one of 575 women that were arrested in Washington after they staged a sit in protest against Donald Trump’s policy of separating migrant children from their parents.
The protest took place inside a Senate office in the Department of Justice and was pretty raucous with chants of ‘Abolish the ICE’ and ‘This is what democracy looks like’.
The actress confirmed that she was one of the women arrested on her Twitter account where she’d been retweeting videos and pictures of the protest all day.
Arrested. Stay strong. Keep fighting. #WomenDisobey

During the 2016 election, Sarandon spoke out against Hillary Clinton and encouraged people to vote for the Green Party’s nominee Jill Stein instead. In an endorsement she wrote for Jill Stein Sarandon noted that Hillary ‘was an interventionist and has done horrible things’.
Her presence at the protest yesterday angered many people on social media who felt that it was hypocritical of her to be at that protest given that she’d spoken out against Clinton and encouraging people to vote with their conscience.
Oh hey @SusanSarandon is this “interesting” enough for you now? How dare you show your face at a protest against @realDonaldTrump when you did nothing to help stop him? Fuuuuck you #ThursdayThoughts pic.twitter.com/HW1XfrV6GV

This black woman will not support the Women’s March as long as you align yourself with one of the women who helped trump win and therefore put my life in danger. https://t.co/FxKIxFUaov

Are you fucking kidding me? @SusanSarandon ? Wtf is she doing? Protesting her protest vote?

Go home. https://t.co/GEUZAwUkl1
Sarandon wasn’t taking that criticism lying down though.
Hi Ellen, hope you stay "in" regardless of whether or not I'm here. Need all our voices to demand an end to family detention & separation and ICE. Bigger than me or u. #WomenDisobey https://t.co/LS23kyBpIv
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) June 28, 2018
Abolishing ICE & family separations/detention is bigger than either of us. If ur in D.C., please come out & march. #WomenDisobey https://t.co/BUupSCJ6Rv

R u marching with us? If so, thx for being here. All hands on deck. ✌🏻 #WomenDisobey https://t.co/pCpAn5RmIa

But people also came to her defence.
My working theory is these people still get mad at Jill Stein or Susan Sarandon or a bunch of imaginary Sanders protest votes or whatever at least in part because they’re looking for a way to circumvent blaming their Trump-voting parents and extended family

Can’t wait for the Democrats to happily vote in Trump’s Supreme Court nominee then turn around and blame Susan Sarandon, Jill Stein and leftists for appointing him

Now it can be argued that Sarandon thought that Trump would be defeated in the election and so her endorsement of Jill Stein wouldn’t do much harm.
However, in the aftermath of the election, Sarandon said she didn’t regret endorsing Stein which a lot of people found hard to take. That being said, if she’s getting out and protesting, it may be a sign that she’s realised the part she played in the election and is trying to make up for it.
All the women arrested were charged and released last night.
