WE HATE TO BREAK it to you, but it’s time.
Taking down the Christmas decorations is a big job, but someone has to do it. You don’t want to be that house that has fairy lights flashing in March, now, do you?
It won’t be easy. In fact, it’s going to be awful – and here’s why.
It’s a stark reminder that the holidays are actually over
And your heart breaks every time you slide a bauble from the plastic (or real, if you’re posh) branches of the tree.
Your house looks less bright and cheery without all those fairy lights
You’re probably going to consider eschewing lamps for strings of flashing bulbs all year round. It’d certainly make things easier for next Christmas.
You have to sweep up all the pine needles
Even if you have a fake tree – they seem to shed too, for some reason.
There’s usually one present left under the tree
For a friend you haven’t got round to visiting yet. Dat guilt.
You should probably do a full-scale clean
You can’t just ignore the cobwebs that confront you when removing the mistletoe from the ceiling. Well you can, but you shouldn’t.
Figuring out where to put all the Christmas junk is a nightmare
When you put up the decorations, you had a tree and some tinsel on the mantelpiece. Now you have several ornamental snowmen, a “funny” dancing Santa Claus and a SANTA STOP HERE sign. Where did it all come from?!
Puzzling over what to do with your real tree
Leave it out in the garden to die? Stuff it in the car and bring it to the dump? WHAT?
Taking a break halfway through for tea, giving up on life
The lesson here is: DO NOT SIT DOWN. EVER. If you sit down, you will decide you can easily finish the rest of the job tomorrow. But you won’t do that either, will you?
