What to watch on TV this weekend

This is the telly everyone we’ll be talking about this weekend.

Saturday highlights

Maleficent (RTE 1, 6.35pm) Angelina Jolie stars in this reimagining of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of her evil grandmother. Maybe she had her reasons? 

Strictly Come Dancing (BBC 1, 6.30pm) This week’s dances are all tributes to Harry Potter. Let the twee person in your life know, be a pal. 

Deadpool (Channel 4, 9pm) The dark superhero finally comes to the small screen.

Who Do You Think You Are? (RTE 1, 9.30pm) Presenter Laura Whitmore is up on the show tonight, investigating her ancestry. She visits places such as the Georgian house on Fitzwilliam Square where her great grandmother worked as a servant.

Bad Teacher (Virgin Media One, 9pm) A terrible teacher dreams of the day she can marry her rich fiance, but is forced to examine her options when he dumps her. Basically, she continues to be a horrible teacher AND person to get enough cash to get breast implants.

At Your Service (RTE 1, 8.30pm) Francis Brennan plans to help revamp Lisdoonvarna Fáilte and to renovate the neglected Spa Wells.

The Ray D’arcy Show (RTE 1, 9.50pm) Joining Ray tonight, are Bosco, Eilish O’Carroll from Mrs Browns Boys, and racing sensation Rosemary Smith. 

Invasion, the Outbreak of World War II (RTE 2, 8.20pm) Documentary about Hitler’s Poland campaign. 

The X Factor (Virgin Media One, 8.35pm) It’s getting interesting now! 

Jonathan Ross Show (Virgin Media Two, 10.50pm) Guest tonight include Gordon Ramsey, Gino D’Acampo, Fred Sirieix from First Dates, and Romesh Ranganathan, Bear Grylls, and Rita Ora.

Sunday 

Child 44 (RTE 2, 9pm) A disgraced member of the Russian military investigates child murders during the Stalin-era Soviet Union. 

Doctor Who (BBC 1, 6.45pm) The brand new series with the new, female Doctor. 

The X Factor (Virgin Media One, 8pm) It’s finally judge’s houses time!
