YESTERDAY, A BRONZE statue of the late broadcaster Terry Wogan was unveiled in his native Limerick.
There was even a big ceremony at Poor Man’s Kilkee on the Shannon quayside:
The grand unveiling.
The statue looks great from afar, but when you get an up close shot of it you realise that the proportions are slightly off… with the result that it doesn’t really look like Terry at all
Oh.
People picked up on it straight away – and the jokes came flooding in
Memories were sparked of that Ronaldo statue from a few months back
People thought the Wogan statue was inspired by that iconic piece
The last 24 hours have been a long game of “guess who this looks like?” – with Nick Cave being an early frontrunner
This theory checks out
Kent Brockman from The Simpsons, maybe?
Yep, you can see that too
The suggestions kept on coming
And, inevitably, the comparison to Herman Munster
Uncomfirmed reports that Lionel Richie’s girlfriend helped out with the design
Something is just *off*
And word is in that there’s going to be an official portrait done
All this criticism *might* be a little harsh – from far away you can definitely make out it’s Wogan
And visitors to the city will know that Limerick’s well-known BBC presenter is being remembered in the birthplace
But still.
What a 24 hours in the life of a statue.
