Here's how you say 'YOLO' in Irish

Sound down with the kids as Gaeilge.

WE ARE CURRENTLY in the middle of Seachtain na Gaeilge.

The fortnight-long celebration of the Irish language encourages people to get reacquainted with Gaeilge.

In that spirit, RTÉ’s TwoTube has compiled this exceedingly helpful guide to texting as Gaeilge.

Three easy ones to start with:

  • LOL  = GOA (Gáire ós ard)
  • OMG = OMD (Ó mo Dhia)
  • YOLO = NASAA (Níl ach saol amháin agat)
  • LMAO = ABMTAG (Ag briseadh mo thóin ag gáire)
  • ROFL = RTUG (Rolladh timpeall on urlair ag gáire)

Want to say “totes”? “Cinntewinnte” is where it’s at.

The slightly insincere “soz” becomes the completely insincere “brónies”.

Become separated from your mates on a night out?

Seems a bit of a stretch to call this Irish, but we’ll allow it.

Meanwhile, still no Irish translation for “bae”.

We propose this:

bae
