IF YOU’VE BEEN watching Westworld, you’ll know that the stars of the hit science fiction western show are often nude or semi-nude in many of their scenes.

Indeed, Thandie Newton during a recent interview with The Daily Beast, acknowledged the regularity with which she appeared nude, laughing: “I mean, Jesus, I was naked most of the time in the first season.”

And the actress revealed that the way in which she was treated by the crew during these scenes gave her pause for thought as she reflected on other nude scenes she has appeared in other productions.

“It is a revelation to me, to all of us who had to be naked,” she said as she explained that the director made sure robes were easily accessed the moment the scene was wrapped and crew averted their eyes.

I just wanted to cry because I never, ever had been treated like that in a situation where I was nude, and I’ve been nude or semi-nude a lot in movies. And it took me a moment to recover myself to carry on. And I was treated that way every single time I was nude.

The 45-year-old elaborated on the effect the production team’s consideration had on her during what is one of the most vulnerable moments for many stars of stage and screen.

Thandie said she realised the care they displayed was at odds with past experiences, and made her question lesser treatment she had been subjected to.

The grace, and the consideration, and the sensitivity. On the one hand I was so appreciative. On the other hand I was horrified by what I had been through up until then. I had delayed horror.

Thandie has recently confirmed she will be receiving equal pay for the third season of the hit show.
