People desperately want a full new series of The Crystal Maze after last night's special

PEOPLE WATCHING Channel 4 last night could be forgiven for thinking they had fallen into a time machine with the return of iconic 90s gameshow The Crystal Maze.
The show came back for a Stand Up To Cancer special last night – actor Stephen Merchant took over hosting duties from Richard O’Brien, even shaving his head for the job.

O’Brien did make a quick appearance via video screen, to the delight of fans…
…But Merchant proved well able to land his signature zingers.

Attempting to win the crystals were a host of celebrity contestants, including footballer Rio Ferdinand, actress Michelle Keegan, and comedian Josh Widdicombe.
The special was filmed at The Crystal Maze Experience in London, which recreates the look of the 90s set – this lead viewers to wonder, well…why not use it for a full series?
