IT’S BEEN A massive public relations disaster for President Trump this week, even more so than what has gone on since his inauguration in January.
First, following the white nationalist attack in Virginia on Saturday night, he condemned the violence “on many sides” – and not the side that started and carried it out.
He followed it up with a bizarre press conference on Monday where he blamed both sides and said that there were “very fine people on both sides” too. Naturally, he was accused of appeasing the white supremacist groups that infamously supported him in last year’s election.
So today The Economist released this week’s issue with a very appropriate front cover to address the events in the US
They turned the KKK hood on its side, and it’s now the megaphone that Trump is speaking through
Their article is titled “Donald Trump has no grasp of what it means to be president”.
People were quick to praise the dramatic, punchy front cover
No words addressed what the image is about, but it’s instantly recognisable what they’re getting at
In a week that saw Trump’s ties to white nationalists called out like never before, a simple image like this is something people have rowed behind
The artist was given appropriate credit, given his image was being shared around the world
Well played, that art department
How one clever, striking image can speak more than many words in a tragic week.
