The Herald accidentally used a photo of Stormzy instead of Lukaku in the paper today

And the mistake is going so viral.

Updated, 14.33.

THE TRANSFER OF Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United has been one of the major sports stories of the last week.

So it’s only natural that it’s leading the back pages of newspapers across Ireland.

However, The Herald made a mistake with their picture selection this morning – accidentally putting a photo of Stormzy instead of Lukaku

The photo looks to have originated from this SoccerBible interview with the grime star from May of last year.

Stormzy was doing the interview as he launched the Manchester United away kit for last season – which explains why he is wearing a United top in the shot.

The unfortunate mistake was picked up on immediately this morning by all the major football Twitter accounts including ODDSbible and Paddy Power – along with everyone else

The similarity between the two has been noted many times in the past – with Stormzy even being asked about it on Channel 4′s Sunday Brunch earlier this year

Asked whether he sees the resemblance, Stormzy replied:

I’m not going to lie, every time I see him, I just look at it and think… yeah, you do mate.

And he tweeted about Lukaku back in 2014 too

Update, 13.33: The Herald has issued a full apology for the error this afternoon.

It reads:

Hands up, we got it badly wrong. Earlier, we made an error with a picture of Romelu Lukaku that wasn’t him. It was Stormzy.
To be honest, we are totally embarrassed and want to say sorry to all involved and our readers for the error. We will keep our eye on the ball in future.

Update, 14.33:

Stormzy has addressed the controversy in a string of tweets and replies this afternoon:
