The Hobbit films confirmed as a trilogy
THERE WILL BE not one, not two, but three installments of the Hobbit story.
BBC Newsbeat reports that director Peter Jackson announced that by extending the project into three films he will be able to tell the “full story of the adventures of Bilbo Baggins”.
Jackson took to Facebook to talk about the “unexpected journey” he had experienced filming the movies.
He said that it is only when he had finished shooting that he had a chance to sit down and watch the first movie and a large chunk from the second.
In Professor Tolkien’s words (the author of both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit), Jackson said his experience has been “a tale that grew in the telling”. That is why “two films will become three” he said.
The first installment of The Hobbit trilogy is due out on December 14 this year, with the follow-up being released on December 13 2013.
