LGBTQ fans and celebrities are sharing their excitement about The L Word's upcoming reboot

IT’S BEEN EIGHT years since The L Word was cancelled and while it was a pretty problematic and frustrating show with a near criminal wardrobe, watching it was a rite of passage for many young lesbian, bisexual and queer people.
Showtime, the network responsible for the show, are looking for a fresh showrunner who has “ties to the lesbian community to document how relationships, their lives and experiences have evolved today – as well as what has and hasn’t changed since the drama launched in 2004.”

Executive producers are going to include some cast members from the old version of the show. We’ll see Kate Moennig (Shane McCutcheon), Jennifer Beals (Bette Porter), Leisha Hailey (Alice Pieszecki) and Ilene Chaiken (who Autostraddle aptly name as Jenny Schecter’s murderer).

It’s not exactly going to be hard to improve on the previous version. For instance, the fact that Jenny Schecter and her pointless monologues will not exist in the 2017 The L Word universe has already taken the quality of the show forward in bounds.

Then maybe, just maybe consider featuring lesbians that don’t dress like ageing rock stars. Who was behind Shane’s wardrobe? Fire them. Never let them have any creative input in any aspect of this godforsaken show ever again.

It would be cool if they could also make this show about lesbians that had jobs and weren’t just inexplicably well-off while never being in employment (looking at Alice, who lived in Hollywood surrounded by rich lesbians doing little more than constantly maintaining a whiteboard that shows who is banging who).

Queer celebs also seem to be aware of this shows shortcomings, because they’re piling in to offer their assistance (and also just to share their enthusiasm at the revival of the show).
Mary Lambert (best known for being the woman that sings the “she keeps me warm” part of Macklemore’s song ‘Same Love’ has offered to take the reigns on writing the theme song.
Writer Roxane Gay is offering her skills to keep the show tasteful.

Comedian couple Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher are also dying to get in on this.
Lesbian icons Tegan and Sara have shared their excitement
Lesbian comedian Liz Feldman insisted that the twin musicians weren’t the only ones praying.
And while praying appears to have worked, fans are adding the most important prayer for this show: don’t bring back Jenny.
The news managed to push Donald Trump Jr down the trending list a little bit yesterday
Fans are very excited.

We all know this could go so wrong. However, at the same time there’s really no excuse to make cringe-worthy LGBTQ content anymore now that we have shows like Orange Is The New Black doing excellent work in that field.
H/t Autostraddle.
