BACK IN 2015, Sport England launched This Girl Can, a campaign aimed at increasing levels of sports participation among women.
The television spot won praise for showing ordinary women from all walks of life playing sport and being active. No lithe models or Olympic athletes here – just normal, sweaty, red-faced women in tatty leggings.
It showed that sport isn’t something to be feared or intimidated by, and that anyone can get fit and play sport regardless of age, weight, ability or skill-level. (Research found that many women avoided sports for fear of judgment by others.)
The ad was a roaring success and inspired millions of women to throw on their runners and get fit.

This afternoon, This Girl Can released their second advert and it’s just as uplifiting and inspiring as the first.

The ad, which is titled Phenomenal Women, shows gals of all ages and abilities running, dancing, boxing and rollerskating, and features the late Maya Angelous reciting her poem Phenomenal Woman.

It’s being hailed for its inclusivity and body positivity, as well as for featuring a wide array of sports. (Roller derby, anyone?)
