This is what a record-breaking 1,263 leprechauns look like
SPOT ANY LEPRECHAUNS on St Patrick’s Day? How about 1,263 of them?
The people of Bandon in Cork yesterday gathered in the town to smash the previous world record (a paltry 264) for the number of people dressed as leprechauns in one place.
“We thought if we could get 300 people we’d be doing well, but it snowballed in the last two weeks and everyone in Bandon came on board,” said Ger Fitzgerald, the organiser of the leprechaun-a-ton.
“Bandon went leprechaun crazy. Everyone wanted to be one. People around the town were still wearing the stuff yesterday evening. It was like a badge of honour,” Ger told TheJournal.ie today.
The youngest leprechaun was a mere 3 weeks old with the oldest in their 80s. “People I never thought would put on a leprechaun costume came along. We’ve had a lot of negative press so it’s nice to put forward a positive image of Bandon,” said Ger.
Next stop: submitting all the paperwork to the Guinness Book of World Records. And possibly planning for next year…
