Here's why everyone's talking about something called TikTok

The same, but different.

APPS COME AND go, but the internet ensures that their memory lives on forever, in whatever format is best.

Take musical.ly for example, that bizarre, wildly popular video sharing app that let you lip-synch to copyrighted songs and videos just for the hell of it. It made stars of Millie Bobby Brown’s ex Jacob Sartorius, and brought Dance Moms’ Ziegler sisters to an even wider audience.

It also gave us enough cringe-worthy content to convince any imminent invading aliens that earth actually isn’t worth taking over, really – not when the life forms are capable of this.

God bless the children.

If that’s still not ringing any bells, do you remember those viral videos where teens drew acne on their faces, only for the camera to pan back and reveal their perfectly clear skin?

… Otherwise known as the ‘Don’t Judge Challenge’.

Well, musical.ly gave birth to that. And didn’t we all learn something from it? Don’t judge a book by it’s poorly drawn on skin conditions.

Late last year, musical.ly was acquired by Bytedance Technology Co. The company merged musical.ly with its other app TikTok in August of this year, hence where that came from.

Yeah, this is one time where you shouldn’t feel bad about being out of the loop.
