Tony Hawk on things "getting ugly" his first time skateboarding in Ireland

“We didn’t belong in the mainstream scene”.

HILL STREET, AN Irish documentary looking at the evolution of skateboarding in this country has its premiere in Dublin on Friday.

Pro-skater Tony Hawk is one of the big names who’s part of the film.

Itsits makers have released footage of him talking about his early visit to Ireland, and the problems he faced.

In terms of non-skaters things could get ugly… anywhere we went at the time it was obvious that we were not the same or that we didn’t really belong in the mainstream scene.

He also recalls a visit to the Top Hat in Dun Laoghaire, which was home to a temporary skate park.
