Tortoise has amputated leg replaced with Lego wheel
THINGS DID NOT look bright for Schildi when he was first brought into Dr. Panagiotis Azmanis and his team of vets at the Bird Consulting International practice in Baden, Germany, reported The Local.
The injured tortoise had been found with a badly infected leg after being abandoned by his owners.
Having been forced to amputate Schildi’s leg to save his life, the vets were then presented with the question of how the tortoise would be able to move around freely following his operation.
According to msnNOW, the solution was found in the toy box of the practice manager’s daughter.
With some special surgical glue and a little trial and error, Dr. Panagiotis Azmanis was able to attach a prosthetic Lego wheel to Schildi’s torso.
On whether or not Schildi will need a change of tyre in the future, Dr. Panagiotis Azmanis told the Metro, “It will be a simple matter to replace the wheel. They move around quite a lot, so I’d expect to see him for a new wheel about once a year.”
For now, Schildi is just happy to roll around on his new addition at a local animal shelter.
