Pacific Rim
(WarnerBrosPictures/YouTube)
For fans of: Monsters, battles, destruction
Avoid if: You snigger at silly jokes, you hate monsters
I’ll just give you a moment to get all sniggering out of the way before I start.
Ready? This looks at what happens when humans create a super machine to battle ferocious monsters that emerged from deep within the Pacific. From director Guillermo Del Toro, it is a super-charged, high voltage film swathed in day-glo neon lights. Intense.

Monsters University
(joblomovienetwork/YouTube)
For fans of: Monsters, lols
Avoid if: You’re more into black and white arthouse
The Monsters are back, and this time they’re (you guessed it) heading to university. This animated film fills us in on how Mike and Sulley first met, and how they initially weren’t exactly the best of friends. Aww. With the voices of Billy Crystal, John Goodman and Steven Buscemi to name a few, this looks sweet and funny.
