What to watch on TV tonight: Monday

Here are the shows that’ll be on your Twitter timeline later.

EVERY WEEKDAY lunchtime, DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

The Rose of Tralee (RTÉ 1, 8pm)

The annual Lovely Girls competition kicks off tonight with the first selection of Roses sure to regale us with Irish dancing, singing and poetry.

Last year, we witnessed a proposal and Daithí shifting a dead fish. This year, anything goes. (We predict an ice bucket challenge.) #RoseOfTralee

Horizon: Should I Eat Meat? – The Big Health Dilemma (BBC2, 9pm)

In the first of a two-part documentary exploring the potential dangers of meat, Michael Mosley goes on a high-meat diet to investigate whether eating burgers and sausages everyday will harm his health. Surely not, we say.

The Shawshank Redemption (ITV2, 9pm)

Get busy living, get busy dying or get busy watching The Shawshank Redemption. Everyone’s favourite prison epic – ranked #1 on IMDb’s Top 250, no less – is on TV tonight. Don’t blame us if you’re a bit bleary-eyed at work tomorrow.

The first Emmys were doled out on Saturday night with Orange is the New Black and True Detective picking up gongs.

Uzo Aduba aka Crazy Eyes won Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Orange is the New Black, while Jimmy Fallon won Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his stint hosting Saturday Night Live.

True Detective, meanwhile, won a rake of technical awards including make-up, casting, cinematography and title design. Other winners in the tech categories included Game of Thrones, Scandal, Masters of Sex, Breaking Bad, Nurse Jackie and How I Met Your Mother.

And there was even some Irish interest as Irish lighting designer Peter Canning was awarded for his work at the Sochi Olympics.

The Primetime Emmy Awards, aka The Important Ones, will take place next Monday.
